Downloading our Favorite Images for our spread!
Choose ONE of the events you have been assigned to work with first!
Go to the ONE DRIVE folder you have been culling photos from!
Find the Event/Sport folder you are assigned (see above)
Hint: this is one of the folders you should have been culling photos into the Favorites folder!)
Double click to OPEN the MAIN folder (do NOT open the FAVORITES folder)!
Select (DO NOT OPEN) the FAVORITES folder
Click the download button at the top!
It "should" download to your Yearbook folder! (if it doesn't please let me know...we need to fix that!)
Unzipping the folder!
ZIP files contain one or more files compressed with ZIP compression.
RIGHT click the
OneDrive_2025 ZIP folder
Select EXTRACT ALL
Click EXTRACT
Go to the NEW folder
Right Click and Choose RENAME
Rename the folder with the Spread name and FAVORITES
Example: HOCO Rally Favorites
Note: within the folder might be a folder with the same name. This is no big deal!
We need a few things first!
Everything will be specific in our yearbook!
Select YOUR first layout to work on (same as the favorites you just downloaded!)
Click on the Layout image.
Click Download
(It should download into your Yearbook folder...if not check your downloads folder!)
SEMESTER 2 Spreads! (not yet!)
Elements CAN be moved around! These are not set in stone.
If something would look better...change it!
FONTS CAN be changed! These are not set in stone.
If something would look better...change it! If you find a font you want to use, just ask me!
Open InDesign
Make sure you are on Essentials Classic!
Click the WINDOW tab...
WORKSPACE>ESSENTIALS CLASSIC
Then to see the entire spread, choose VIEW (tab on top)> FIT SPREAD IN WINDOW
NOTE the SHORTCUT!
Save to Creative Cloud!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Select
SAVE TO CREATIVE CLOUD
Next to SAVE AS...
RENAME THE FILE!
Your First Initial Last Initial "event" (Remember be specific!)
Example: TE HOCO Rally
Then click SAVE on the bottom right corner to save it to Creative Cloud
Then click OK
This is telling us we have links to our document that are on our Hard Drive...this is OK
Now you should see a cloud icon and a suffix .inddc
The file should now auto save and will be save to Creative cloud.
Layers...
On the right you should see your properties panel...
Click on the Layers panel
All of the layers are LOCKED
To UNLOCK a layer, click on the little pad lock next to the name.
UNLOCK the PHOTOS layer ONLY!
It is good practice to keep layers locked when you are not specifically working on them!
Remember to lock the layer after you are done working on it!
Adding TEXT etc!
To UNLOCK a layer, click on the little pad lock next to the name.
UNLOCK the Text layer ONLY!
Select the Selection tool from the Tool panel
Select the MAIN HEADLINE
On your layout, select the
Main Headline
Double click it to activate the Text Tool
(TIP: You can triple click the text to selct it all)
Replace the Text with one of the creative headlines you wrote last semester!
Select the Selection Tool (Black Arrow) to move the text as necessary!
Select the SubHEADLINE
Now, under the Headline, select the SubHeadline
Double click it to activate the Text Tool
(TIP: You can triple click the text to select it all)
Replace the Text with a unique Sub headline!
Select the Body Copy
Now, change the body copy
Double click it to activate the Text Tool
(TIP: You can triple click the text to select it all)
Replace the Text with information about the event!
Select the Roster under the main Photo
Now, Change the Roster
Double click it to activate the Text Tool
(TIP: You can triple click the text to select it all)
Replace the Text (COMING SOON!)

Adding Photos etc!
UNLOCK the PHOTOS Layer!
Shortcut to PLACE is Ctrl + D
Select one of the IMAGE Frames (the GREEN boxes)
Select FILE>Place or Ctrl + D
Go to your Yearbook Folder> Event Name>Favorites Folder
Click on an image you would like to place in the box and click OPEN!
NOW! Place an image in each place holder!
To change the view of a folder, on the top right, click the "Change Your View" pull down and select EXTRA LARGE ICONS
If the photo does not fit...
Click the OBJECT tab>
FITTING>Fill Frame Proportionately
To adjust the image:
Hover over the image until you see a double circle/donut in the center of the image...this is the Content Grabber.
Click on the center circle (Content Grabber) to engage the content grabber and move image into desired position!
If you are working on a sport...
Place the TEAM PHOTO in the PINK Box!
When you are done adding images...
LOCK THE LAYER!
Now go back and add captions under the photos (on the TEXT layer)!
Remember! You might have to adjust the text frame to fit the text...
Select the Selection Tool (Black Arrow) to move the text is necessary!
Adding Doodles etc!
We will add doodles as they come in... :(
When you are done...Images are in, text is in...all looks good:
Let's Export what you have...
(Rosters and Doodles can come later)
After saving your file,
Select the FILE tab>Export
Export to your YEARBOOK folder
Save as Type: Adobe PDF (PRINT)
For the Preset:
PDF/X-1a:2001
All Pages
Click SPREADS
Click EXPORT
Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
Select Assignments
Select
Yearbook: FIRST LAYOUT 25/26!
Scroll down to MY WORK
Click +ATTACH
Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE
Select DESKTOP (on the left) then the YEARBOOK Folder
Find the PDF file we just exported and select it:
It should be in your YEARBOOKfolder!
Example:
TE HOCO Rally.pdf
Click OPEN
Wait for file to upload
File will show up below under My Work
CLICK TURN IN!
NOTE: There MUST be a PDF file attached to get credit AND MUST have images properly placed! Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!
FIRST PROOF DUE:
Friday, January 16!
Ctrl+Alt+Delete then select SIGN OFF!
Please place HEADPHONES on your Monitors!
