WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Building a productive and successful Yearbook!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: A well-organized yearbook foundation is key in building a yearbook. Planning from the beginning will help us work as a team and most importantly be successful!
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: Today you will submit a rough PDF of your Club age and continue working on layouts!
For Part 1 of assignment...
Open Your PRACTICE Layout!
Let's Export what you have...
After saving your file,
Select the FILE tab>Export
Export to your Practice 1 folder
Save as Type: Adobe PDF (PRINT)
For the Preset:
PDF/X-1a:2001
All Pages
Click SPREADS (THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!)
Click EXPORT

Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
Select Assignments
Select
Yearbook: PRACTICE LAYOUT!
Scroll down to MY WORK
Click +ATTACH
Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE
Select DESKTOP (on the left) then the YEARBOOK Folder>Practice 1 Folder
Find the PDF file we just exported and select it:
It should be in your YEARBOOK>Practice 1 folder!
Example:
TE Practice 1.pdf
Click OPEN
Wait for file to upload
File will show up below under My Work
CLICK TURN IN!
NOTE: There MUST be a PDF file attached to get credit AND MUST have images properly placed! Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!
TOTAL: 50 POINTS!!!
Add Photos
Add text
Add Doodle
Export as a PDF SPREAD
Name file Correctly!
Let's prepare for press....
Check the Spelling...
Select EDIT>SPELLING>
Check Spelling (Ctrl + I)
Note the shortcut:
As word are noted in dialog box, you can choose to Skip, Change or Ignore
To change:
Click on the suggested Correction and slect CHANGE
InDesign will move to the next word.
You are NOT done until reach the end of your document!
SPELL CHECK COMPLETE!
Check your links...
Select WINDOW>LINKS
Note the shortcut:

On the LINKS panel:
Files are listed by NAME, Status and Page
If a file has an icon in the STATUS column, we need to check it!
The square/triangle means the file is embed...we are good!
The ? means the file is MISSING...we need to relink it!
The (2) means the file is placed more than once! We need to fix that!
If a link is missing (?)
Right click the image in the LINKS panel and select RELINK and go to your folder to choose the image
We need to SAVE AS our final file to our computer...
This we will do AFTER EVERYTHING is proofed and corrected!
SAVE AS YOUR DOCUMENT!

(or File: SAVE AS)
Save to YOUR COMPUTER!
Click the Save on Your Computer button
On the left click THIS PC
Select Desktop
Select Yearbook Folder>Practice Layout Folder
Name the document:
"First Name Last Name PRACTICE"
Example: John Smith PRACTICE
Click SAVE
Package InDesign files for sharing...
Once all of your links are good, we need to package the file.
Select FILE>PACKAGE
Note the shortcut:
Summary:
This gives us a glance at ALL the parts
Look for any errors. Mainly we are looking to make sure nothing is missing!
Fonts:
This gives us a glance at all the fonts used.
Click on SHOW PROBLEMS ONLY
Are there any fonts missing?
Links and Images:
This gives us a glance at all the images used.
Make sure the status does NOT have it as missing!
Are there any images missing?
CLICK PACKAGE!
CLICK SAVE!
InDesign needs to know WHERE you want the package...
Choose This PC>Desktop>Yearbook
Make sure these boxes are checked:
Copy Fonts
Copy Linked Graphics
Update Graphic Links in Package
Include IDML
Include PDF (Print)
CHANGE THE FOLDER NAME!
For the FOLDER NAME:
First Initial Last Initial PRACTICE _ PACKAGE
Example: TE PRACTICE_PACKAGE
Click PACKAGE
InDesign protects the use of fonts...
Click OK
This warning means you need to fix your text!
Click CANCEL
Wait a few minutes for InDesign to do its job!
Click the SHARED tab on top
Click the PACKAGED PRACTICE folder to open it!
Drag your First Initial Last Initial PRACTICE PACKAGE folder HERE!
At the top it will show it is uploading multiple files...WAIT until it is done!
When it is done...You will see that it has Uploaded the Packaged Folder into the Teams PACKAGED PRACTICE Folder!
If the file reads it will replace something let me know immediately!
