WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Building a productive and successful Yearbook!

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: A well-organized yearbook foundation is key in building a yearbook. Planning from the beginning will help us work as a team and most importantly be successful!

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: Today we will begin building our spreads and giving each other feedback along the way!

OPEN YOUR YEARBOOK FOLDER!

Create a NEW FOLDER INSIDE YOUR YEARBOOK FOLDER

(right click...New Folder)

Name the folder:

DOODLES

Open TEAMS

We need to change a setting!

On the top right, click on the elipse (three dots) and select SETTINGS

Now in the SETTING panel, search for DOWNLOADS

Select Files and Links > Downloads

Click CHANGE on the right

Navigate (on the left) to Desktop>Yearbook>Doodles Folder

Select the Doodles Folder and Click SELECT FOLDER

Now when you download from Teams, your doodles will automatically be placed in the DOODLES folder!

Where are our Doodles?

Let's get our doodles!

Open TEAMS

Click the SHARED tab on the top

Open the DOODLES folder

Do NOT CULL/MOVE Doodles as they may be used more than once!

If you select more than one doodle at a time, the download will be zipped!

When you see one you want, select it (click the circle on the top right of the doodle)

Select DOWNLOAD

Doodle should now be in your Doodles folder!

Adding Doodles!

After downloading Doodles of course!

Open InDesign

OPEN YOUR FIRST LAYOUT!

Make sure you are on Essentials Classic!

Click the WINDOW tab...

WORKSPACE>ESSENTIALS CLASSIC

Layers...

To UNLOCK the DOODLES layer, LOCK ALL OTHER LAYERS!!!

With the Selection tool (Black Arrow) selected, press Ctrl + A on your Keyboard to selet the doodles that are there...

Press DELETE on your keyboard to DELETE them!

Now, on the DOODLE layer...

Select the Rectangular Frame Tool

(the box with an X in it!) from the Tools Panel!

Shortcut to PLACE is Ctrl + D

Draw an IMAGE FRAME (box) somewhere on the page on the Doodle layer

(simply click and pull)

Shortcut to PLACE is Ctrl + D

Select one of the IMAGE Frames you created

Select FILE>Place or Ctrl + D

Go to your Yearbook Folder> Doodles

Click on an image you would like to place in the box and click OPEN!

Shortcut to PLACE is Ctrl + D

Select one of the Doodles you downloaded

Click OPEN

This will place the Doodle!

If this pops up...click OK

This is telling us we have links to our document that are on our Hard Drive...this is OK

NOW! Place a doodle in each IMAGE FRAME you added!

To change the view of a folder, on the top right, click the "Change Your View" pull down and select EXTRA LARGE ICONS

If the doodle does not fit...

Click the OBJECT tab>FITTING>Fill Frame Proportionately

To adjust the doodle/image:

Hover over the image until you see a double circle/donut in the center of the image...this is the Content Grabber.

Click on the center circle (Content Grabber) to engage the content grabber and move image into desired position!

Transparency....

The drawn doodles will compete with the page so we need to lighten them up a bit...

Select the Doodle

Right Click and select EFFECTS>TRANSPARENCY

Bring the OPACITY to around 50%

This is subjective...Use your best judgement!

When you are done...

LOCK THE DOODLES LAYER!

When you are done...

Images are in, text is in...all looks good:

Let's Export! (again!)

Before creating a PDF, turn off (click the eye in the box next to the layer) the paper layer! (Leave the Doodles layer on!)

After saving your file,

Select the FILE tab>Export

Export to your YEARBOOK folder

Save as Type: Adobe PDF (PRINT)

Name the file:

Your Initials "Event" Layout Doodles

Example:

SW Varsity Football Layout Doodles

For the Preset:

PDF/X-1a:2001

All Pages

Click SPREADS

Click EXPORT

GETTING CREDIT!!!

Click the SHARED tab on top

Click the LAYOUT 1 w Doodles PDF folder to open it!

Open your Yearbook Folder>

Drag Your FIRST LAYOUT with Doodles PDF file into the folder!

NOTE: Your file should be named after the event with "Your initials Event Doodles" in the title!

Example:

SW Varsity Football Layout Doodles.pdf

(you get the idea!)

When each layout is ready to be proofed...

Your 1st layout will go in the

LAYOUT 1 w Doodles PDF folder

Your 2nd layout will go in the

LAYOUT 2 w Doodles PDF folder

Your 3rd layout will go in the

LAYOUT 3 w Doodles PDF folder

Your 4th layout will go in the

LAYOUT 4 w Doodles PDF folder

Your Club layout will go in the

Club Layout w Doodles PDF folder

LAYOUT 1 w/DOODLES PROOF DUE:

Wednesday, February 25!

Friday, February 27!

SHORTCUT TO LOG OFF COMPUTER!

Remember to SAVE (ctrl + S) any file before doing this shortcut!

Ctrl+Alt+Delete then select SIGN OFF!
