WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop Masking Layers
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Layer masks in Photoshop are an essential tool for enhancing your creativity and flexibility when working with images. They allow us to hide or reveal parts of an image or layer without permanently erasing any content.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will practice adding a layer mask and then create one for our Yearbook and turn it in!
This will save the file to your Yearbook or Downloads folder!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save as Type: PHOTOSHOP!
Then click Save
Save to YOUR COMPUTER!
Click the Save on Your Computer button
On the left click THIS PC
Select Desktop
Select Yearbook Folder
Name the document:
"First Name Last Name DOG1"
Click SAVE
Let's Begin!
Click on the WINDOW tab on top
Select Workspace>Essentials (Default)
This will help us be consistent during the class!
Select the DOG layer
Use the Quick Selection tool
Click the Brush Options and set the brush size to 40 px
to select them. You can drag more than once to get everything selected
Don't worry about selecting the tiny whiskers!
If you include part of the green by mistake, click the SUBTRACT ICON at the top (3rd from the left in the group). Then brush over that area to substract it from your selection!
The mask is based on your selection of the dog. The mask hides the green wall, which reveals the landscape on the layer below!
Click OPEN (on the left)
Navigate to Desktop> YEARBOOK folder>
Open the JPG file you downloaded! (the Spotlight Photo)
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save as Type: PHOTOSHOP!
Then click Save

Click the Select tab on the top and select SUBJECT
Wait for Photoshop to process
This is ANOTHER way to quickly select and mask a subject!
On the Layers Panel, click the Layer Mask Icon
If not, we may need to refine the mask!
If your subject is hard to cut out, go find a new photo! Remember Students like to see faces and action!
Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
