WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: How to build a productive and successful Yearbook!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: A well-organized yearbook foundation is key in building a yearbook. Planning from the beginning will help us work as a team and most importantly be successful!
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: Today we will discuss as a TEAM how to proceed in various part of planning our yearbook. Each student will have buy-in on its development!
As the quarter progresses, we will begin to see each of you develop in different areas!
Typical Roles and Responsibilities:
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
ASSISTANT EDITOR
PHOTOGRAPHERS
JOURNALISTS

LAYOUT EDITOR
GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
AD SALES
MARKETERS
TREASURER
However, EACH student will learn aspects of EVERY role!
Organizational Style
How do we want it to go???
Organize your book and responsibilities by month or season (Fall, Winter, Spring)
Organize your book and responsibilities by subject (events, academics, sports, etc.)
Building a Ladder
What's a Ladder?
A nice—and concise—chart that represents the pages in a yearbook. We use it at the beginning of the year, and we’ll be able to better plan our book length, prioritize all the ideas you have for sections and stories, and determine what we have room to cover. Best yet, it doubles as a visual reminder of what our book is supposed to look like when it’s done. It’s basically one huge, visual post-it-note.
Example School Ladders (use the tabs on the bottom to navigate by school type)
Our LADDER will be located in our TEAMS files!

After 15 minutes, let's discuss what we have found!
Last Year's Ladder (23/24 SY)
Located in our TEAMS FILE
Start with last year’s book.
Begin your ladder with our first page. Our first page on our ladder should be one that contains content.
Adjust as we go. We don’t want to mess with our plan too much, but the beauty of the ladder is that it can be easily rearranged.
Highlight pages on the ladder once they’re completed, and check them off once you’ve signed off those pages.
Keep the up-to-date ladder in a place where everyone can access it at all times.
We will also discuss how we can build OUR new ladder!
